3 TIPS TO CONSIDER WHEN PICKING A STATEMENT MIRROR

Red mirror

It’s been a minute. Dealing with personal loss started the year off on the wrong foot but it’s getting better.

Good news is, I’ve been redecorating my space.

This has been a process over the past two months I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. As the next few months run along, I will be letting you in on on all the tips, tricks and lessons learned in the process. One of my favourite things about my space is my mirror. It is a feature most people are drawn to when they get in to my space. In this blog post I will be letting you in on 3 tips to consider when picking a mirror that will make a statement.

1.A POP OF COLOR

From the picture below, my mirror is obviously very red. I wanted the frame thin and a bold color and red just came to me. People underestimate color. It never fails to make to change a space and is a super easy way to go. Go pink or blue or multicolor if you like.

2.DITCH THE RECTANGLE

Looking for something more paired back yet interesting. Why not pick a different shape outside of the basic rectangle? The arched rectangle is a safe choice and it also gives an interesting architectural element to your space. A little more daring? Try a triangle or an organic form mirror like this one below. These are definitely statement mirrors.

3. IT IS ALL ABOUT MATERIALS

You can never go wrong with an interesting frame. You can go the modern or industrial route with metals. A little bit Zen or Boho with rattan. There are really interesting mirrors like Anna Thoma’s foam frame mirror which everyone loved on Instagram last year.

Now to a question I know will be asked How can you get these mirrors? A lot of times, ordering from stores outside Nigeria is really expensive and the safety of an item as fragile as a mirror is not secure. Buying from retailers may also be out of the question if you are looking for something specific.

The answer is to have it made. Take your dimensions. Ask your family carpenters or carpenters that live around. you. If they don’t make mirrors they probably know someone who does.

I had this mirror made in Tejuosho Market, Yaba. If that’s not far from where you live, you can check it out!
